A Detailed and Comprehensive Review of Bulova Precisionist 96B158 Watch – This New watch Is Holding an Amazing Surprise
Please have a thorough look at this watch. What do you estimate the price to be? I am willing to bet that you are not even close to being accurate.
To put things into perspective for you, the price of this watch is far lower than you may anticipate. So even if it has certain flaws, I think Bulova has come up with something important for you to be aware of.
This watch, renowned as the Precisionist for several reasons that I will explain in a moment, was manufactured by a classically American brand. I have researched two of this Citizen subsidiary’s earlier products and services. I felt both gave good value for the money as well as appealing and unique looks, but this one really takes things to the next level.
DIAL DESIGN
On the other hand, the packaging is very typical and complies with the usual standards Bulova sets; nothing remarkable about it. However, you will not have to wait long until you come face to face with one of the most intriguing dials I have ever seen.
The backdrop produces a captivating rolling illusion of a whirling background of alternating dark and light lines. These lines merge to form the backdrop. At first, I assumed these were ridges, but when I zoomed out and looked at the bigger picture, I saw some smart manipulation. The lighter areas allow for an extra sunburst effect, which further drives up the mystery and creates a gorgeous light whirlpool that is fun to play about.
The difficulty is heightened by the faceted hour indicators, which, for some unknown reason, span over two grey rings on each side of the dial. It allows the hour markers to throw shadows on the dial below, which is something that I have never seen on a watch before. In addition, there is a rising minute track that encircles everything, and there are luminous squares present every hour, adding a layer of depth to the scene as if there was not already enough going on here.
This dial is the most detailed one I have seen on a cheap watch, yet it still manages not to seem cluttered. My preference is for things to be kept simple, so the way it is now is still a little too hectic for me. However, in contrast to other pieces, such as the carelessly thrown-together Spinnaker Fleuss chronograph, every component of this Precisionist has been thoughtfully examined to ensure that it adds to the overall appearance and concept of the watch.
HANDSET & MOVEMENT
It covers the movement as well as the handset. The primary hands are extremely smart alpha pointers, and they have a touch of lume in the center and a central strip that extends into a small rear overhang for extra flare.
Although they are admired, the magnificent sweeping second-hand is the feature that really stands out. The Precisionist label is thoroughly and truly deserved here as the high-performance P102 quartz movement produces a buttery smooth motion and completely dominates anything else available in this price range. This movement blasts everything else at this price point out of the water. It surpasses the performance of the vast majority of high-beat automatics and is only bested in fluidity by the somewhat more costly Grand Seiko “Spring Drive.” This Precisionist runs at an unfathomable 262 kHz, translating to 16 beats per second. To the casual observer, it appears to be practically flawlessly smooth, floating along at an otherworldly speed. In addition to providing one of the cleanest sweeps, it also provides astounding accuracy of within 10 seconds every year.
This movement brilliantly captures the benefits that quartz can offer when it is done at a high level, particularly when paired with the thin design of the watch. Although the infinity symbol counterweight on the hand may be a bit gimmicky to some people, introducing such a feature on a watch at this price point is unusual.
Under the hood, this mechanism is not especially glamorous, which is potentially brought to light by the snap-back case, which prevents it from being exposed to the outside world. I attempted to remove the back to have a better picture, but it was held so firmly that I had to give up to keep from damaging it.
WATCH CRYSTAL
At the time of launch, the watch price was less than $300; thus, some sacrifices must be made, right?
Many identifying characteristics indicate that this is not, in reality, a genuine luxury watch. The crystal option is the one that stands out the most among those. There is just a plain old flat mineral crystal here, and it does not even have a good anti-reflective coating, which is really disappointing. There is no justification for this, given that switching to the far more durable sapphire would have resulted in a marginal price increase but would have maintained this Bulova looking better for longer. I believe most customers would gladly pay the incrementally higher price at this price range.
CASE CONSTRUCTION
The watch comes within a case. It is by no means an ugly casing; in fact, it is fascinating, with many different surfaces and an effect that resembles a double chassis displayed on the flanks of the device. It appears to be a case inside a case, much like the peculiar Lotus 88 F1 racing vehicle produced in the early 1980s.
Left – San Martin Watch Right – the Bulova Precisionist
The finishing is sub-par for the price, with some rounded edges in places where more precise ones would have been desirable, as well as the overall quality of brushing and shining that appears to have been done on a budget. Despite this, the finishing remains sub-par. This gap is instantly evident when compared to other less costly Chinese-brand watches, yet if you were to look at them alone, you might not see it.
DRAWBACKS
There are a few other unimportant points to consider. Although comfortable, the strap is also somewhat plasticky, and the crown has a wavy texture that duplicates the dial but is slightly offset by the guards. The crown also has a wavy pattern that mirrors the dial. This band may not hold up as well as you would like it to over time, but it is certainly not the worst. In addition, every single piece of dial text is imprinted straightforwardly.
QUALITY
Despite these drawbacks, I can state with complete sincerity that this Bulova appears to be more abundant than the majority of luxury watches I have observed in the display cases of jewelers throughout my lifetime, at least from the distance that one would see a wrist from. Furthermore, the quality control on this product appears to be satisfactory, since there are no obvious faults. In light of this, investing in a Precisionist watch is an obvious choice if you want to give the impression that you are wealthy by wearing a watch that looks costly.
DIMENSIONS
Suppose it is the right size for you, of course. If you have thinner wrists, you will not be able to wear this watch since it has a diameter of 42 millimeters and measures 49 millimeters from lug to lug, even though it is thin. Furthermore, if it completely vanishes, it will not be good either.
